1. Optimize HTTP Cache-Control Headers
Never serve static immutable files without explicit browser and CDN cache directives:
Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable
public: Permits CDN edge caches and proxies to store the file.max-age=31536000: Informs the browser to retain the file in local disk cache for up to 1 year.immutable: Informs browsers not to send conditionalIf-None-Matchrevalidation requests on page refreshes.

Ensure your CDN edge supports Slice / Range requests. When a user requests bytes 0–1,000,000, the CDN should only fetch that specific byte slice from the origin, rather than forcing a full file download.
3. Prevent Origin Shock with Request Collapsing
When a popular new file is released, hundreds of users request it simultaneously before the CDN has cached it. Enable Request Collapsing (Wait for Cache) so that only one request hits your origin storage, while all other clients wait at the edge for the response.

Should I use chunked transfer encoding or Content-Length?▾
For large files, always set Content-Length when the size is known — this enables progress bars and range requests. Chunked transfer encoding is appropriate only when the final size is unknown, such as streaming generated content.
How do I prevent CDN from caching user-specific download responses?▾
Add Cache-Control: private, no-store to responses including access tokens or user-specific URLs. CDNs respect Cache-Control: private and will not cache these responses at edge nodes.
